Farmer and water screening kit.

Water decides whether a farm can feed fifty families every week of the year. Test it in April–May terms, score the farmer, and send the result to the BhoomiSeva desk.

Who to enrol

Three kinds of farmer make a year-round basket.

Target profile: progressive vegetable growers with 2–5 acres, drip already installed, known to a Warkem field team or a rural chemist, with a second adult to run the daily harvest.

%s

Preferred sources, in order

  • Canal or dam-release farms in the head or middle of a reach, not the tail-end.
  • Perennial river-lift farms, below a dam outlet, or wells within 1–2 km of a canal or river.
  • Large open wells that held water in the last two Mays, with a pond.
  • Farm pond of 500 m³ or more with drip, borewell as backup.
  • Borewell-only: only with 3,000 litres an hour or more measured in May, outside a cluster of failing wells.

Do not enrol

  • Rain-fed or tail-end canal farms.
  • Borewell-only farms with falling levels.
  • Water with EC above 2.5 dS/m, or never tested.
  • Leases under three years, or unclear title.
  • Farms beyond 25 km of the Kendra.
  • Anyone who wants cash advances or sells elsewhere when mandi prices rise.

The 7-point water test

Test for April and May, not for today.

Peak need is about 25,000 litres a day for every acre, from March to June. A farm that cannot show that for 60 days is not an AnnaSeva source, however green it looks in October.

How to measure: run the pump for a full hour and measure litres, or fill and time a known tank. Ask the farmer and two neighbours what the source did last May. Use an EC meter on the source water. Score only what you can see or measure. These are proposed norms, to be ratified with Warkem’s Chief Agronomist.

Score a farm

Score on the farm, before you leave.

The scores appear as you choose. Hard stops: a source that dries by summer, untested or poor water, or no all-weather road.
