Impact

Heal the soil. Cool the planet.

Soil is the one big carbon store we can start refilling tomorrow. Put in your acres, your families and your years, and see what changes.

430.5ppm of CO₂ in the air, May 2025. It was 280 before industry.
6 of 9safe limits of the planet are already crossed.
29.7%of India’s land is degraded.

Why now

The air is full. The soil is empty.

CO₂ keeps climbing, and farm soil has lost much of its carbon. Both can be turned around.

Films and facts

Films inspire. We count.

Three films moved millions of people. Here is what each one showed, and the number we put on it.

2020

Kiss the Ground

Healthy soil can pull carbon out of the air and hold it.

What we count0.3 t of carbon per hectare per year in the expected case (0.15 to 0.5).

2021

Breaking Boundaries

Earth’s safe limits are being crossed, and land and food sit at the centre.

What we countFarming presses on five limits: climate, land, fresh water, nitrogen and nature.

2018

The Biggest Little Farm

A worn-out farm came alive again with variety, patience and care.

On our Shri AnnaSeva FarmTwenty-plus crops in rotation, flowers instead of extra sprays, drip and mulch.

Films tell stories. Our numbers rest on assumptions that you can change in the calculator below.

How to turn it around

Stop adding. Pull down. Keep it down.

1

Stop adding

Less synthetic nitrogen. Less food waste. Shorter food miles.

2

Pull down

Strong leaves and living roots feed the soil. Microbes lock the carbon in.

3

Keep it down

Test the soil every season. Cover it, mulch it, rotate crops. Carbon stays only while the practice stays.

Root

Shri Sutra

70+ certified bio-inputs (NOP, NPOP, EU, JAS) take the place of synthetic nitrogen.

Leaf

Shri Yog

A stronger leaf takes in more CO₂ and builds more biomass.

Soil

Shri Sanchay

Feeds the life in the soil. Carbon goes in and stays.

Water

Shri Dhaara

Conditioned water. Roots take up more, and less water is needed.

To be straight: no single protocol reverses warming on its own. Cutting fossil fuels comes first. Healthy soil is the part farmers can start this season, and it must be counted honestly. That is what the calculator does.

The ripple effect

One acre. Five ripples.

Pick a layer. The numbers follow your calculator.

The safe way

Fail-safe organic transition. The bridge that makes it real.

No farmer should bet the crop on a big idea, so we never ask. Three years, one step at a time, with the soil tested first.

Five safeguards

  • Baseline: a soil test before anything changes
  • Phased reduction: never a sudden stop
  • Soil-life rebuilding: so the soil can feed the crop
  • Monitoring: soil, leaf and crop checked all season
  • Market first: buyback agreed before sowing

Why this matters for the climate

Carbon stays in the soil only while the practice stays. A farmer who feels safe keeps going. Fail-safe is what makes the drawdown last.

From our CEO

We can be the generation that turned it around.

Every farmer I meet wants a field that feeds the family and a future for the children. Every parent I meet wants food they can trust. These are not two wishes. They are one, and it begins in the soil.

The numbers on this page are honest, and modest on purpose. No single company will cool the planet. But millions of acres, healed one season at a time, will make a difference. Your acre counts. Your family’s plate counts. Your voice counts.

Let us leave our children soil that is alive and air they can breathe.

If you farm, begin with a soil test. If you eat, book food from a farm you can trust. If you lead a company, a bank, a school or a village, adopt an acre, a Kendra or a district. Begin this season, and tell one person.

How we count

Honest numbers, open assumptions.

Sourced facts
  • CO₂ at Mauna Loa: NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (May 2025 peak, 430.5 ppm, NOAA).
  • Temperature and warmest years: WMO State of the Global Climate.
  • Planetary boundaries: Richardson et al., Science Advances, 2023 (Stockholm Resilience Centre).
  • India’s emissions: Fourth Biennial Update Report to the UNFCCC. Total 2,959 Mt CO₂e excluding land use; agriculture 406 Mt.
  • Land degradation: ISRO Desertification and Land Degradation Atlas, 2018–19.
  • Food waste: UNEP Food Waste Index 2024; ICAR-CIPHET post-harvest loss studies.
  • Soil carbon: anchored to Project Drawdown (about 1.8 t CO₂e per hectare per year for better annual cropping) and an Indian review of 147 studies.
  • Grid emissions: Central Electricity Authority, 2023-24 (0.727 kg CO₂ per kWh).
  • Fertiliser: about 8 kg CO₂e per kg of nitrogen, derived from an Indian life-cycle study.
  • Healthy-soil target of 0.75% organic carbon: Soil Health Card guidance.
Our assumptions (all editable)

Revenue, water use, nitrogen use and biomass per acre for each crop type. Yield gain, price premium, food waste avoided, processing losses avoided. Food at Rs 60 per kg, food travelling 400 km against 60 km, power at Rs 6 per kWh, 6 jobs per Kendra, Rs 1.5 lakh per job. These are model assumptions, not measured results. Change any of them under “Edit the assumptions”.

What this is not

This is not a forecast and not a carbon-credit claim. Soil carbon can be lost if the practice stops. Leaf CO₂ is a gross flow and is not counted in the net. Fertiliser savings are not added to the economy figure. The crore-acre steps show potential, not a promise. Results depend on crop, soil, season, protocol discipline and monitoring.
