Ways to get tested

Bring the sample, or we come to your field.

1

Visit the Kendra

Bring a soil sample from your field. It is tested on Bhu-Vision while you wait, and the result is explained to you.

Find your nearest Kendra →
2

Sample from your field

During the season's soil testing drive, a BhoomiRakshak from your cluster can collect the sample from your field.

3

Through your chemist

Ask your village chemist. The chemist books your test with the nearest Kendra and tells you when to come.

Taking a good sample

A good report starts with a good sample.

The Kendra team will guide you, but if you bring the sample yourself, follow these steps.

  1. 1

    Pick 8 to 10 spots

Walk across the acre in a zig-zag and mark 8 to 10 spots spread over the whole field.

  2. 2

    Clear the surface

Remove grass, stones and crop residue from the top of each spot.

  3. 3

    Dig a V-shaped pit

Dig a V-shaped pit about 15 cm (6 inches) deep and take a thin slice of soil from one side.

  4. 4

    Mix and reduce

Mix the soil from all spots in a clean bucket, then keep about half a kilo.

  5. 5

    Bag and label

Put it in a clean cloth bag with your name, village, field and crop written on a label.

Please avoid

  • Bunds, field corners and water channels
  • Spots under trees or where manure was heaped
  • Sampling right after applying fertiliser
  • Plastic or fertiliser bags for the sample
  • Mixing soil from two different fields
